Miami Herald posts an article on Rey
The Miami Herald posted an article about Ultimate Underdog, Rey Mysterio, promoting his appearance in FCW last night. In the article, they discuss FCW, Rey’s WWE future, and if he’s a hall-of-famer. If that’s not enough, two superstars from FCW discuss how much Mysterio has impacted their career. I suggest you read it, because it’s a great read!
WWE superstar Rey Mysterio will make a special guest appearance during a Florida Championship Wrestling show on Sunday, Sept. 5 at the Osceola Heritage Park Exhibition Hall, 1875 Silver Spur Lane in Kissimmee.
Mysterio’s career began in Mexico during the early 1990s where he adopted the high-flying wrestling style known as lucha libre. Fans were first exposed to Mysterio on a national scale through the now defunct World Championship Wrestling where he was a former cruiserweight and tag team champion.
It wasn’t until Mysterio joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002 where he would achieve his greatest success. The masked superstar has captured numerous tag team and Intercontinental title honors culminating with two reigns as world champion. He can be seen on WWE SmackDown (8 p.m. Fridays MyNetwork TV).
“Rey Mysterio is a sure bet to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame one day. He’s been doing this for 20 years, and he’s still on top of his game,” FCW President Steve Keirn said in a release.
“This is the first time he has ever appeared with Florida Championship Wrestling, and it will truly be an honor to have him here.”
At 5-6, 175 pounds, Mysterio was an underdog in a big man’s world. From his early days in Mexico when he attempted to follow in the footsteps of his uncle, the original Rey Misterio, the masked superstar was constantly labeled as too small.
Through perseverance and dedication, Mysterio not only silenced his detractors but captured the ultimate prize by winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22 in 2006.
Mysterio’s inspiring story has created an unparalleled excitement among many of FCW’s young stars including Hunico and Epico. Collectively known as Los Aviadores, the team has adopted the Mexican Lucha Libre style that Mysterio helped make famous in the states.
“Rey Mysterio in so many ways has been an inspiration to my career. I’d be happy to create half the legacy that he has in our industry,” Hunico said in a release.
Epico added: “If there was no Rey Mysterio, Lucha Libre probably would have never received mainstream acceptance in the United States.”
The FCW action packed card will feature eight matches with some of the stars of WWE’s NXT stars, along with select superstars from RAW and SmackDown. The always popular FCW Divas will also be in action.
Mysterio will sign autographs for fans prior to the show.
VIP ticket holders will be admitted at 5:30 p.m. Reserved seating and general admission seating is 7 p.m., and bell time is 8 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $50 and are available at Buddy’s Home Furnishings locations in Kissimmee (1534 West Vine St.) and Orlando (2121 American Blvd). Tickets also available at FCWWrestling.com .
