Smackdown opens up with Teddy Long discussing the Undertaker’s retain at TLC. He said since Batista lost, it is time for a new number one contender ! Batista comes out, interrupts Teddy, talks for a bit, only for Rey to interrupt him ! Rey said he deserved as much of a shot as Batista does, and he should be the number one contender, and how Batista thought Rey was always ‘too little’. Rey says he wants to BEAT Batista for the shot, that way Batista can’t ! Long makes the match, and says that the winner will go to face Undertaker at next week’s Christmas special !

Rey Mysterio defeated Batista to become the Number One Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship !

Rey Mysterio came out to a big pop, and then Batista came out to quite a lot of booing. Batista gained control first, and was throwing Rey into the ring post constantly. Rey is a fighter though, and is holding in, after some back and forth throws, kicks, and everything you can image, Batista is thrown out of the ring, for Rey to go on the top rope and land right on him ! Rey goes in the ring, goes for a baseball slide but misses. Batista throws Rey in the ring, follows, only for Rey to kick him so he lands on the floor. MOONSAULT ! Right off the top rope. Rey gets caught, and is slammed into the fan barrier.

Back in the ring, Batista has control, and is making Rey pay for standing up to him. The crowd is chanting “sí, se puede !” which means “Yes we can!” in Spanish. Batista still has control however, and is defiantly making Rey pay. Batista goes for a near fall, 1-2 ! No, Rey holds on. After, Batista picks Rey up – slowly, and irish whips him into the turn buckle. Batista puts his foot on Rey’s throat, Batista is just giving Mysterio hell.

Rey goes for a kick, but damn ! Batista counters it, and goes for a pin. Batista is still in control, and is just overpowering him. He slams Rey into the mat constantly, and then Batista gets on the top rope, Rey goes for a counter ! But doesn’t land, after Batista holds on. Then Batista goes for a hit, and A DROPKICK FROM REY ! Rey gets up, and starts countering, and starts picking up his pace. Rey lands a move, and gets a near fall ! Rey goes to the top rope ! 1-2, near fall again ! Batista picks up, only for Rey to counter with a DDT ! Rey sets up for the 619, LANDS IT ! Off the top rope, only or Batista to put his knees up. Batista goes for a pin, only for Rey to kick out ! Batista goes for a Batista Bomb, only for Rey to go through his legs, and Batista slams. Rey grabs the bottom rope ! Another Batista Bomb set up, only for Rey to fight through, and for Batista to be sent out of the ring. He goes for a chair, yet remembers he can not get disqualified. SPEAR ! From Batista, he goes for a pin, and Rey kicks out.

Batista picks Rey up, and Rey gets a rollup ! 1 – 2 – 3 !
REY MYSTERIO IS YOUR NEW NUMBER ONE CONTENDER !

Next week, on Christmas night, Rey Mysterio will take on The Undertaker for the Heavyweight Title !
